The Janshaw’s Swiss Fondue ✨

Updated: Apr 20, 2023

We’re half Swiss, and living in Switzerland, we love a good fondue. This easy recipe will not disappoint!

WHAT IS SWISS FONDUE?

Ah, Swiss fondue, the cheesy equivalent of a group hug! It's like a bubbling cauldron of gooey goodness that brings people together like a deliciously sticky bond. It's a social experiment gone deliciously right, where friends and family gather around a pot of molten cheese, armed with long forks and even longer appetites. It's a culinary ritual that requires coordination, skill, and a healthy sense of humor as you chase down runaway bread cubes or compete for the last bits of crusty goodness. And let's not forget the best part - the inevitable cheesy string fights that turn your dining table into a hilarious battlefield. So, dip, swirl, and laugh your way through Swiss fondue, because it's not just a meal, it's a cheesy adventure that will leave you smiling and craving more!

Time: 20 minutes | Serves: 4 INGREDIENTS 600g fondue cheese 4 cloves of garlic (roughly chopped) 350ml dry white wine 4 teaspoon corn starch 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg 25ml kirsch (cherry liquor) 750g baby potatoes 1 baguette (bread) Paprika, pepper, curry powder, and other spices you like for serving on the side of your plate to dip your fondue in!

HOW TO MAKE IT 1. In a large pan, boil the baby potatoes (in their skin) until you can piece a fork in them. 2. In a caquelon (fondue pot), start melting all the cheese on medium heat, stirring from time to time to ensure it doesn’t stick to the bottom; continue until soft. 3. Stir in the garlic, nutmeg, and white wine and keep string for about 3-5 mins to ensure the wine and cheese are mixed well. 4. Stir in the kirsch and cornstarch and just keep stirring slowly until you’re satisfied your fondue mixture is creamy and ready to eat.

5. You’re fondue pot should still be heating over a fondue burner whilst enjoying it

~ Serve chopped-up baguette bread and the baby potatoes for dipping in the fondue with a fondue fork, and add a dash of whatever spices you fancy to dip from your plate (such as paprika, pepper, and curry powder).
